Conditions Impacting Women’s Hormonal Health

Menopause and Perimenopause

Perimenopause is the transitional phase leading up to menopause, wherein the ovaries produce less oestrogen leading to hormonal fluctuations and hormonal imbalances. Both transitions are normal biological processes though they can have varying degrees of effects based on the individual. Female hormone restoration is essential to aiding in menopause relief and the mitigation of negative symptoms.

Adrenal Fatigue

Adrenal fatigue is a term used to describe a collection of symptoms that result from chronic stress overwhelming the adrenal glands. When prolonged periods of stress occur, the adrenal glands, which produce hormones like cortisol and adrenaline, are drained of their reserves resulting in unstable hormone levels. This leads to a variety of health issues that can be mitigated through female hormone therapy treatments and changes in lifestyle.

Obesity and Metabolic Syndrome

Obesity and metabolic syndrome are interconnected health challenges. Obesity  itself occurs when an individual possesses too much body fat and is a driver of metabolic syndrome – a combination of conditions occurring together that increase the risk of numerous health challenges.

High Cortisol Levels

Cortisol, the body’s stress hormone, is produced by the adrenal glands and plays a key role in regulating regular biological functioning. However, a prolonged state of high cortisol levels can lead to a range of health issues. High cortisol levels can often contribute to other hormonal issues like insulin resistance, meaning that female hormone restoration through female hormone therapy will be your best chance at mitigating negative symptoms.

Hypothyroidism/ Hyperthyroidism

Hypothyroidism occurs when the thyroid produces insufficient hormones, leading to a slowed metabolism. On the opposite end of that, hyperthyroidism results from excessive thyroid hormone production, creating a overactive metabolic state. Each of these issues present different health problems that affect overall health. Proper diagnosis through comprehensive blood tests measuring TSH, T3, and T4 levels is essential for developing appropriate treatment that seek to optimise natural hormone restoration in women.

Insulin Resistance

Insulin resistance is a physiological condition wherein cells in the body become less responsive to insulin, the hormone that regulates blood sugar levels. This condition forces the body to produce more insulin to maintain normal blood sugar levels. This is one of the leading factors in the development of type 2 diabetes.

Sleep Apnoea

Sleep apnoea is a sleep disorder in which breathing repeatedly stops and starts during sleep. This condition can lead to a host of issues such as disturbed sleep, reduced overall oxygen levels and an increased susceptibility to other health risks.

ADHD

ADHD (Attention-Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder) is a neurodevelopmental condition  characterized by symptoms such as inattention, impulsivity, and hyperactivity. Fluctuations in hormones like oestrogen and testosterone can also impact ADHD symptoms, particularly in women.

Low Oestrogen or Progesterone Levels

Low oestrogen or progesterone levels can significantly impact a woman’s physical and emotional wellbeing, disrupting the delicate hormonal balance essential for optimal health. Oestrogen therapy and hormone optimisation are crucial in female hormone restoration.

Polycystic Ovary Syndrome (PCOS)

Polycystic Ovary Syndrome (PCOS) is a female hormonal disorder presented by a combination of symptoms including irregular menstrual cycles, elevated levels of male-predominant hormones and the presence of fluid-filled sacs on the ovaries. It is the leading cause of infertility among women and closely linked with other hormonal disorders such as insulin resistance.

Depression or Anxiety

Depression and anxiety are mental health disorders influenced by various factors, including hormonal imbalances. Hormones play a crucial role in regulating your mood and stress responses Additionally, fluctuations in oestrogen and progesterone, particularly in women during menstruation, pregnancy, or menopause can increase their susceptibility to the symptoms of mental health disorders.
